Should We Stretch Before Bed or Early Morning?

Have you thought about incorporating stretching into your day but haven’t decided when to fit it into your schedule?

Whenever you can will bring numerous benefits and would be a good time but let’s look at the benefits of before bed versus early morning.

Stretching before bed promotes relaxation and improves your sleep quality. Engaging in gentle stretches can help release tension accumulated throughout the day, easing muscle stiffness and discomfort. Because stretching encourages blood flow, it aids in muscle recovery and reduces the risk of nighttime cramps. Additionally, stretching activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels, making it easier to unwind before sleep. This simple, calming routine prepares the body and mind for restorative sleep, contributing to overall well-being.

We know that stretching anytime enhances flexibility and overall range of motion but now let’s look at the benefits of stretching when you wake up.

Stretching as soon as you wake up offers a multitude of benefits that set a positive tone for the day. Because it enhances blood circulation, promoting oxygen flow to muscles and joints, it helps reduce stiffness from sleep. It activates the nervous system, increasing alertness and mental clarity. Because this practice can alleviate stress and anxiety, it can enhance your mood to face the day. Additionally, a morning stretching routine promotes better posture, reducing the risk of discomfort or injury throughout the day. Incorporating this habit leads to an energizing and productive start.

I encourage you that if you haven’t started already let’s start now to take as little as 10-20 minutes morning, night or both to start enjoying all the benefits of gentle stretching!
