We are often asked how often an individual should have a massage, so let's look into this question.
While it is client specific, it can be helpful to identify ways to determine when you should schedule a massage appointment and how often.
Identifying the goals you want to achieve at your massage therapy session, is the first step.
Are you stressed and in need of relaxation? Or perhaps you are experiencing muscle pain and need relief? Do you have decreased mobility or muscular restriction?
Identifying your "reason" helps you get the most out of your massage therapy session and allows us to tailor the session specific to your needs.
How often should you have a massage?
For relaxation:
As often as you like and can afford! Prevention is better than cure, therefore, for maximum benefits, booking a regular appointment is recommended whether that be weekly, monthly or longer.
For pain relief:
Sessions that are weekly or every other week are best until the pain subsides. It should be noted that there should be at least 3 days between sessions to allow muscles to recover.
For relief of knots/mobility restriction:
To fully work out the knots, it is advised to have weekly sessions for at least 4 weeks and then schedule monthly sessions to prevent reoccurrence.
If you are still unsure how often you should invest in having a massage, we are happy to discuss your goals/needs and help you determine the best course of action.
We look forward to helping you achieve a healthier, happier life!
